Hanoi is about 376km away from Sapa, most of which are steep slopes and narrow hairpin bends. Therefore, traveling to Sapa takes more time, averaging 6 to 7 hours by motorbike and 5 to 6 hours by bus or tourist car.
Currently, there are 2 routes to travel from Hanoi to Sapa as follows:
Route 1: (Going in the direction of Lao Cai) Hanoi – Vinh Phuc – Viet Tri – Phong Chau – Doan Hung – Yen Bai – Lao Cai – Sapa. The total distance is about 360km.
Route 2: (Going in the direction of Lai Chau) Hanoi – Hoa Lac – Son Tay – Thanh Son – Along QL32 – Sapa. The total distance is over 420km.
Transportation by private vehicle
If you choose to travel by personal vehicle, you can follow this route: from the center of Sapa town, head northeast towards Xuân Viên in the direction of Ngũ Chỉ Sơn.
Next, make a left turn after Gia Bao Restaurant – Nuong Ngoi (which is on your left). Continue for about 350m, then make another left turn towards Thac Bac. From here, turn left onto Nguyen Chi Thanh street, and after about 500m, veer right onto Ba Thoa street. Continue straight, and you’ll arrive at Swing Sapa.
